Boston-Die Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority settled with the estate of a 39-year-old man who was killed in 2022 when he was pulled by a red line after his arm was in the closing doors of a railway car.

The Boston Globe reports that the MBTA has settled a negligence for the death of Robinson Lalin for 5 million dollars. According to court files, Lalins receive two children and a nephew parts of the comparison.

Lalin was killed in an incident on April 10, 2022 when it was pulled more than 100 feet when the red line of line left Broadway station until it was pulled against a wall at the end of the station platform. The incident played a role in the decision of the Federal Transit Administration to inspect MBTA operations. This in turn led to a number of security guidelines issued by the agency in June and August of this year [see “Federal directives order MBTA …,” News Wire, June 15, 2022, and “DOT agency issues safety directives …,” News Wire, Aug. 31, 2022]. The MBTA still deals with some of these guidelines.
