“It is heartbreaking;” The community supports the family after the 9-year-old was killed

Pleasant Grove, Utah – you don't have to go very far to learn a lot about the leasant Grove.

“We are all close and we all know each other by names,” said the local Charice Reimschiissel. “We are just a pretty narrow community, I think.”

The sense of community in the city is now more needed than depending on the 9-year-old Dalton Gibbs killed after it was hit by a truck while crossing a local road.

“I don't even know how to put it into words. The feeling yesterday was terrible,” said Jeff Snider, a friend of the Gibbs family.

“Yesterday was a really hard day for everyone, and it will be a really hard future for these two families forever,” said captain Britt Smith from the Pleasant Grove Police Department.

The driver of the truck, who met Gibbs, originally left the scene, just to be located and interviewed by the police.

“It found out that it was Dalton and it is heartbreaking,” added Snider.

Snider visited the church with the Gibbs family and got to know her and Dalton in recent years.

“When you see [Dalton]They couldn't help but smile, only his, as he went, so confident and sweet at the same time and only a sweet child, ”he said.

By Wednesday, families had bound flowers, balloons and ligaments to remember Dalton.

“Blue ligaments, that was his favorite color, along the trees and fences that along this street in this area,” said Reimschiissel.

Smith said the police are still working on their investigations.

“Whenever it is a child, it is difficult,” said Smith. “The police from Pleasant Grove wants justice for this 9-year-old. It always hits home. They never believe that they or their family will be, but that also thought the victim.”

Snider announced how the community is now trying to be there to support the family.

“Let the Gibbs family know that we love them too,” he said. “Remember Dalton to be there for you and you know, we think that's the only thing people can do.”

A Gofundme page was created to help the Gibbs family with funeral costs.

“If some of the most vulnerable and youngest people in their community happens, it hurts everyone,” added Capt. Smith added. “It hurts the entire community. The community just hurts.”
