“Extreme” increase in politically motivated crime in Germany

In 2024, Germany recorded an increase in politically motivated crime by 40% compared to the previous year, according to the figures published on Tuesday.

Of the total number, 42,788 right -wing extremists were and corresponded to almost 50% of the politically motivated crimes.

Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said that the “extreme” increase in numbers was “through the polarization of our society and through the rise of anti -Semitism.

Natalie Pawlik, the government commissioner for anti-racism, condemned a “dramatic” increase in racist, anti-Semitic and Islamophobic crimes in Germany.

“Hitler welcomes, incitement to hate, strikes in the face of the face for 12 minutes in our country a judicial court,” she said.

Pawlik asked the Federal Government and the German States to work on further prevention and political education against such crimes.

“And everyone in this country has the duty not to change the right -wing extremism and racism,” she said, and asked people to “intervene in buses or trains and to defend our peaceful coexistence in a diverse country.”

“The figures are a bitter reality, but they must never become a norm.”
