The personal secretary and a consultant of the mayor of Mexico city were killed by armed men on a motorcycle in a central quarter of the capital on Tuesday, the authorities said.

Mayor Clara Brugada holds President Claudia Sheinbaum the second most powerful political post in the country and they are allies in the Morena party.

Brugada said in a statement that her secretary Ximena Guzmán and consultant José Muñoz were killed in the Moderna district. Brugada called the murders a “direct attack”.
