iPhone 17 air leaks show an elegant design and a huge camera base: game-channel or gimmick?

The iPhone 17 rumors said everything -it would be Apple's thinnest phone with recognizable hardware compromises that finally replace the Plus model. Licks even said that the air under 6 mm would be thin, but what it would look like in the real world was everyone's assumption. A new leak shows exactly how thin the iPhone 17 air can be placed next to the iPhone 16 Plus.

While the alleged air dummy looks remarkably thinner than the plus model, the huge camera base shows the reduction that Apple may have made to achieve the slim design. Tipster Majin Bu-Der has a good success balance for Apple-related leaks, shared two photos on X and displayed an iPhone 17-air dummy next to the iPhone 16 Plus. In both displayed units handheld, the visual comparison leaves little space for assumptions.

The Ultra Slim iPhone 17-air dumpled appears almost half as large as the iPhone 16 Plus. Several leaks and rumors have suggested a thickness of less than 6 mm. If the water contains and the air in the photos looks like the dummy, Apple seems to have reached a milestone to reduce the width of the iPhone to a level in which it seems to be almost halved.

However, reaching this width reduction was not easy. Proof: the camera base. It is huge and seems to sit strangely and sit in the back with a reasonable lead. This unusual look is not because Apple may have extended the camera module, but because the rest of the body of a conventional iPhone has shrunk considerably. The camera base on the air dummy shown in the photos is more or less the same width as that on the iPhone 16 Plus, except that it only has a sensor, which means that it can be withdrawn from the rest of the body.

A slim body also means less weight, which means that Apple can transfer the iPhone 17 air to less bulky phones for a long time. The air would not be compact: rumors indicate that it could use the same size as the plus model. However, it could make a lighter profile on hand. Sure, Apple seems to have released some functions to achieve this. In order to achieve such sleekness, Apple may have sacrificed functions – for two camera modules and a larger battery, but whether the iPhone 17 air becomes a hit.
