Personnel secretary and consultant of the mayor in Mexico city, who was killed in attack

Mexico -Stadt -The personal secretary and consultant of the mayor of the Mexico city were killed by armed men on a motorcycle in a central quarter of the capital on Tuesday, the authorities said.

Mayor Clara Brugada said in a statement that her secretary Ximena Guzmán and consultant José Muñoz were killed in the Moderna district. The motif was examined.

The attack occurred around 7:30 a.m. local time when Muñoz and Guzmán were in a black Audi Suv. There were four ball holes on the driver's side of the windshield. A body was on the sidewalk.

Mexican security analyst David Sauckedo said the murders had hit the license plate of an organized crime and he believes that the government of Brugada should exert pressure. He asked why someone who is as important as Guzmán in Brugada, had no security detail.

Brugada holds President Claudia Sheinbaum the second most powerful political post in the country and they are allies in the Morena party.

Sheinbaum condemned the murders and said during her morning that there would be no impunity. She said that she was not aware of threats against Guzmán. Sheinbaum served as mayor of Mexico city before winning the presidency last year.

In 2020, armed men from the Jalisco New Generation Cartell tried to kill their then police chief in a spectacular ambush on a central boulevard. He was wounded and three people were killed.

In the first quarter of this year, the murders in Mexico's capital had risen slightly compared to the same period of the previous year.
