Nazar scores twice, while the US rallies in the ICE Hockey Worlds are over after Czechs. Austria makes playoffs

Stockholm – Frank Nazar scored a goal twice to help the United States Rally for a 5-2 victory over the Czech Republic and to give the defending champion his first defeat at the ICE Hockey World Championship on Tuesday.

The victory raised the Americans in Group G in Herning, Denmark, to second place. Switzerland won the group, with the Czechs third.

Nazar steered a shot on the net to bind the game with 2-2 1:35 into the last period of a power play. He scored another power play for the sixth goal of 21-year-old Chicago Blackhawks striker at the tournament.

Logan Cooley made a shot up close to reach it with 6:31 and to end Andrew Peeke with a goal into an empty network.

Josh Doan gave the Americans a 1-0 lead of 9:25 in the game with a backhand between the pads by goalkeeper Karel Vejmelka.

The United States dominated the first period and transferred its opponent 23-8. The Czechs came back in the second when David Pastrnak combined the game in 41 seconds after the beginning of the period with his team -mate from Boston Bruins Swayman for his sixth goal at the tournament.

Pastrnak then stopped Martin Necas in the left circle, which brought the Czech 2-1 to 8:33 a.m. with 2-1.

Previously, Austria reached the playoffs for the first time in 31 years.

Austria defeated Latvia 6-1 and was the fourth and final team that reached the quarter -finals of Group A.

Sweden and Canada later face the top position in the group on Tuesday. Finland, another qualified team, defeated Slovakia 2-1.

Switzerland defeated Kazakhstan 4-1 in Herning, Denmark, and switched to the head of Group B.

Kazakhstan was relegated in the top division after five years.

Switzerland ended with 19 points, two in front of the US

In addition, the winner between Germany and Denmark will later determine the fourth and final team of Group B on Tuesday.
