Illustration with the listening scandal of the late 80s in the event of attempted bribes arrested

Christos Mavrikis, who was notorious in the late 1980s for his participation in a top -class political tracer, was arrested in Athens because he supposedly tried to bribe a judge of the Supreme Court with 1 million euros in order to influence a civil law case.

The investigation, after the judge, a member of the Supreme Court, reported that they had received a letter from Christos Mavrikis, a number in the letter was supposedly applied for the intervention of the judge in an upcoming real estate case, in which 100 Stremmata (10 hectares) were involved in the suburb of Papagou in Athens in which the state and a private party are legal opponents.

According to reports, the letter expressly referred to the pending lawsuit and contained a financial proposal that implied that Mavrikis would receive EUR 1 million if the result was favorable. Communication was interpreted as an indirect attempt to impress the judge.

The judge immediately reported on the approach to his superiors and submitted the letter, which caused a quick preliminary investigation. The case was assigned to the public prosecutor's office in Nikolao's margaritis, and the authorities arrested Mavriki on Tuesday.

After a few reports, the judicial sources speculate that the motive may have been to include the judge, since he reports that he is a leading candidate for upcoming appointments for the leadership of the court. In fact, the attempt was characterized as awkward and asked questions at his political time.

Mavrikis, 71, denies any attempt at brib. In a statement on documento.gr, he claimed that the letter to a potential commission was mentioned to impart a real estate sale and not to a judicial payment.

Mavrikis has a story of legal problems, including a conviction of 1997 because he tried to captivate the current president of the Supreme Court, Ioanna Klapa, in a fuel smuggling.

Prosecutors investigate whether the letter tried to brief justice, a crime under Greek law.
