Change of USDA license policy and the future of the Rattlesnake vaccine

Transcript

Christopher Lee, DVM, MPH, DACVPM: This is a veterinarian -watch -update. I am Christopher Lee. Rattles snake vaccines. The USDA recently updated its guidelines in relation to limited market licenses, and they now say that they are time.

What does that mean? This means that vaccines such as the Rattlesnake vaccine, which has been on the market for over 20 years, are no longer renewed by the USDA. Red Rock Biologics, the company that produces this vaccine, has sent a letter to veterinary experts in which they are asked to contact the USDA and ask that this vaccine stays on the market.

Now the vaccine is a bit controversial, partly because it is under a limited market license, and partly because it – well – a vaccine. And vaccines often bring controversy. In both cases, DVM360 is not concerned with promoting one or the other product, but for you, the viewer, we are obliged to ensure that you have the latest information.

For this reason, a copy of this letter and means of contacting the USDA are provided in the post office. In addition, we have Dr. Wallis invited to get into the show here at Vet Watch. We hope that she has time so that she can give us more information on this important topic.

Thank you for watching here at DVM360 Vet Watch, where you all protect everyone today.
