2 Plainfield restaurants can now add video game machines

Pligefield, Il-Zwei Restaurants in Plainfield on the South Route 59 will add video game terminals after they have been highlighted by the village board.

La Dolce Vita Pro Tutti and the Big Apple Cafe, which are less than a mile south of the city center, were approved for video gap licenses during the board meeting on Monday.

The board voted 5-1 with trustee Brian Wojowski, the sole opposition for the license at La Dolce Vita; and 4-2, as a trustee Tom Ruane, Wojoski joins the game for the Big Apple Cafe.

Ruane voted for video games in the Italian restaurant, but in the café said: “It's a nice sit-down restaurant why you have to have bells and whistles in there.”

“I'm a kind of hypocritical,” he said. “I don't have a good explanation that I lean on one and no to the other, just the fact that it simply does not seem to be the right place and the right atmosphere for playing, and I thought we had written a better regulation to prevent this.”

Mayor John Argoudelis said he agreed that “it doesn't make much sense to choose eggs and bacon and get games. Our intention is the bars and this kind of places that need this little additional thrust.” He added that some restaurants that were approved for video gate licenses could later remove the machines if they do not see any income if people have no “eggs, bacon and gambling”.

Bonuchi said she also agreed to Ruane, but explained that she had voted for both restaurants: “If we say yes, we cannot say no to others.”

Ruane suggested that the board take a look at the current video game regulation of the village to contain the number of companies that install machines.

“I think we have to look at this regulation and rewrite it because it is not far away from video game manufacturers because it would not be very difficult to set up one under this current regulation, and I know that we did not want to see all,” said Ruane.

After years and hers on this topic, the Plainfield Village Board voted for the video game in February 2024. The village receives “minimal” tax revenue, but the approval was rather intended to help small companies with the additional source of revenue, said Argoudelis on Monday evening.

In the 2025 financial year, the village of Plainfield received around $ 18,000 income that will be given to the capital fund, said village administrator Joshua Blakemore.

The board approved five machines in the Italian restaurant and four at the breakfast place. In La Dolce Vita, which has been operated in Plainfield since 2011, there is a play area in a separate room on the west side of the building with an entrance from the main entrance, the bar and the dining room.
