11 high school lacrosse players who are suspected in the creation of teammates in Syracuse apply themselves and avoid kidnapping fees | Regional/national headlines

(CNN) – All 11 Lacrosse players of the Westhill High School, who are suspected of being involved in a teammate, have turned around, said Joseph Coolican Joseph Coolican on Wednesday.

The non -juvenile students are charged while the young people go “directly to the family court”, said Coolican. They are charged with illegal imprisonment for offenses, said district prosecutor William Fitzpatrick.

The students of the Westhill High School, who are not identified due to their age, are accused

Fitzpatrick made the suspect a unique offer of public offer on Tuesday: contact the sheriff department within 48 hours and you can be exposed to a less serious offense due to illegal detention. The suspects arose on Tuesday and Wednesday within one day after the district prosecutor's tough deadline, said Fitzpatrick.

Most suspects are minors, but according to Coolican, at least one is over 18 years old.

We know the following about the case that amazed the community:

What happened?

Some of the suspects made the younger players go to McDonald's after a lacrosse game after a Lacrosse game last Thursday, said Fitzpatrick.

The driver of the vehicle then claimed that he was lost in a remote part of the district. There “accomplices jumped out of the forest and gave to be a kidnapper,” said the district prosecutor.

The accomplices were dressed in black and apparently had at least one pistol and at least one knife, said that.

“Some of the (victims) could escape,” said Fitzpatrick. But one of the students couldn't flee.

The group put a pillow cover over the head of this student, tied it together and threw it into the trunk of a car before he pushed it into another forested part of the county, said Fitzpatrick.

The younger player was finally returned home. But “there was a period of time in which he thought he would leave in the middle of nowhere,” said he.

“I saw the video tape of what happened to this young man,” said Fitzpatrick. “It is not a transitional rite. It is not a trivial matter. I don't know how long this young man will be affected by what happened to him.”

The video also learned reactions by some suspect, said Fitzpatrick. “You can hear that some of the people found it amusing.”

Why did the suspicious kidnapping fees avoid?

In the news information on Tuesday, before all suspects had arisen, the district prosecutor increased the prospect of the more serious indictment for kidnapping.

“If you don't do it – if you are harder than me, you are a player and you will play the chances, you will not believe that you will be caught. Trust me, the men and women of the Sheriff department of Onondaga County will identify you,” said Fitzpatrick.

If the suspects have decided not to turn, they would be arrested, persecuted as an adult and charged “perhaps in the second degree” due to kidnapping crimes, Fitzpatrick warned on Tuesday.

The suspects under the age of 18 who have turned to themselves are sent to a family court and are not subject to criminal law, said Coolican.

“If you are 18, you would be entitled to a so -called youthful criminal status that would seal the record in the state of New York,” said the deputy prosecutor on Wednesday.

“If you spend yourself and (be) (be) charged because of the offense, you would not have permanent records,” added Coolican.

Fitzpatrick did not say whether it was real or wrong. But “we will not burden anyone with the possession of a weapon,” he said.

What happens next?

The rest of the Lacrosse season of the Varsity Boys was canceled, said Stephen Dunham, superintendent of the Westhill Central School District, on Tuesday.

While most of the team was not involved in the incident or knew about the plans in advance, “we had to deal with the culture of the program, and the most suitable way to do this,” said the superintendent.

The school district has initiated its own investigation, although “he cannot comment on or do not share any specific details about the student discipline,” said Dunham.

But he noticed that the policy of Westhill Central School District “strictly” prohibits the lawsuit in all forms.

“Hazing is an unsustainable act,” said the superintendent. “It can be humiliating and humiliating and possibly cause physical and emotional damage.”

Before the pupils agreed on Wednesday, Dunham told CNN that the school district was fully working with the examination of the district prosecutor.

“Any behavior that negatively affects physical security, mental health or the well -being of other students is immediately and adequately addressed according to our code of conduct,” said Dunham.

“We don't shy away from difficult situations when they appear, nor do we avoid difficult decisions,” he said, adding that the school district “works through all of this in connection with the law enforcement authorities”.

CNN contacted Dunham and the Department of the Sheriff of Onondaga to get a comment after the students had shown.
