Video records Crocodile 'Fred' near Black Point Marina; Locals say he is a familiar guest – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sport

Southwest Miami-Dade, Fla. (WSVN) – A large crocodile was discovered in a marina in South Florida, but the locals say that he was a familiar face.

Video, which was published on social media, Fred the Crocodile conquered, as the locals lovingly call it and on Tuesday near a bank at Black Point Park and in Marina in the southwest of Miami-Dade.

“There is Fred, all about 16 to 18 feet from him, a thousand pounds, crazy, beautiful crocodile, sits there and caught some sun with about five police officers around him,” said Lee Dorfman, who discovered the crocodile.

Many people who cross the area say that he is a regular guest near the Black Point Ocean Grill.

“It is a bit difficult to grasp, but they know when he's here,” said Christian Ruiz, Manager of Black Point Ocean.

Ruiz said many people ask about Fred and always look at the marina to see if they discover it.

“If at all, we should have him on salary bills for everyone who comes out of here to see him and so,” he said.

At the beginning of this month, 7News received an additional video from Fred Chilling in the same area.

“He rules the channel and the port. He likes to come in after the fishermen got their catch, and they have the cleaning table there and he taught to go there after caught their fish and he eats the scrap and he loves it,” said Lee Dorfman.

Dorfman said the presence of the crocodile made it a little nervous

“When he was on board there, he would have been very dangerous, really dangerous,” he said.

While others said they were okay to get to Fred.

“For the most part, no, because it is not as if he really bothers someone,” said Ruiz.

In any case, it is quite obvious that the people in the area have seen this massive crocodile and hope to see him again.

“Fred is the biggest, I love him. I love nature, so he is one of the dinosaurs, absolutely. We all know Fred and we are careful,” said Dorfman.

7News turned to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to get instructions on what to do when a crocodile can be found on a popular hiking trail.

From 10 p.m. they did not answer the request for comments.
