The Roofers volunteer work to repair the leaky family of boys, eight, recovered from cancer

Roofers from all over the country have voluntarily reported to install a new roof to stop leaks and to moist in the North Yorkshire House of an eight-year-old boy who recovered from cancer.

After more than two years of daily treatment, Ben Firth from Selby is in acute lymphoblastic leukemia in remission.

In 2022, the rare type of cancer was diagnosed that influenced blood and bone marrow.

Ben was initially unable to leave the hospital and return to his house – a Victorian property that was renovated by his father Richard because moisture, mold and dust cause complications due to its weak immune system.

Richard, who is autodidactic in several trades, worked hard to tackle problems such as mold and moisture during the build.

But he admitted that he was “too proud” to ask for help because the installation of a new roof was outside of his skills.

At the suggestion of her psychologist, he and his wife Alison placed a plea for the help for Band of Builders (BOB) – a registered charity organization that completes practical projects to help members of the British construction industry and their families who are fighting against diseases or injuries.

Richard and Alison said that they had bought the house as a “forever” house with large plans to renovate it themselves.

BOB reacted to the request of the family and asked his 50,000-person community of volunteers, supporters and supporters of companies for help with the project.

Thirteen roofers responded to the call and process their time free of charge.

“We are so grateful”

The project sponsored by SIG Roofing begins on Thursday (May 22nd) and is expected to be completed on Sunday.

“We are so grateful that our family's assembly will finally help to finally reach the security that we long for,” said Richard and Alison in an explanation. “Ben was funny because he can't see what the whole excitement is to say:” It is just a roof. “

“But for us it is the world and the gang of construction companies, volunteers and supporters of companies – like Sig Roofing as a sponsor of the project – and we can hardly wait for the project to start.”

Loty Pritchhard, Marketing Director at SIG Roofing, said: “We will provide the roofing materials for this project free of charge and support the amazing roofers and other commercial shops that voluntarily get involved in a new roof.

“We can't wait to see the results and help the Firth family to enjoy their home forever.”
