Autobahn renamed Perrysburg Vietnam Veteran, who was killed months after the mission

Toledo, Ohio (WTVG) – The municipality of Perrysburg honors the life and heritage of a Vietnam veteran with special commitment in its hometown.

This new honor comes more than 50 years after his death.

Jerry Bockbrader was a young man when he was shipped to Vietnam, and now he is the namesake of a motorway route in Wood County.

Perrysburg's own Jerry Bockbrader is one of the many young men who have sacrificed everything in Vietnam.

“He was confiscated in 1968 and serves,” said Tim Bockbrader, the nephew of private first class Jerry Bockbrader. “He was killed today 57 years ago.”

Bockbrader was deployed to Vietnam on February 26, 1968.

As a light infantryist, Bockbrader was killed by a man with a grenade just a few months later.

“I grew up in the footsteps of Jerry and in the legend that he was and the hero he was,” said Tim Bockbrader.

Tim Bockbrader never had the chance to officially meet his uncle, but there are stories that Jerry Bockbrader will be kept alive in the municipality of Perrysburg.

“Countless memories, many great stories from the family, from friends here in the community,” said Tim Bockbrader.

On Tuesday, Vietnam veteran's memory remains a component for everyone to see his victim and to remember his victim.

“It was a corridor that Jerry traveled every day,” said Tim Bockbrader.

State Route 199 between West South Boundary Street and the State Route 105 in Wood County is now known as Jerry Bockbrader Memorial Highway of the US Army private private.

“It was the corridor where he would travel home after his death, and the funeral service that brought him home, so a very important piece of street for us,” he said.

It is a commitment to life and the victim of an American hero.

The draft law was introduced by the state representative Haraz Ghanbari.

“Pfc. Bockbrader's bravery and commitment to duty embody the best of what it means to serve our country,” said State Rep. Haraz N. Ghanbari (R-Perrysburg). “This small but sensible gesture will help to remember future generations of his victim and the victims of everyone who has served in Vietnam.”
