Stock lock for the decline in youth crime in Maryland National Harbor praised

Since the Navy Yard and Wharf communities of DC have to do with large groups of stubborn young people and questions of measures, the residents of National Harbor in Maryland said that they could sympathize.

“We here in the National Harbor knew exactly how it felt,” said Dani Moore-King.

Last year, Moore-King was one of National Harbor's inhabitants, who demanded something to do after hundreds of young people had gathered, fought, broke windows and even made flash mob charging on shops.

“It was bad, it was bad, it was bad enough that some residents decided to move out, decided to rent some residents. Some residents even decided to sell their places,” she recalled.

Now she said that thanks to a youth lock from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, the problem is behind them.

“The curfew here in the National Harbor was very effective,” said Moore-King.

The outcome lock was first used on April 25, 2024 as an emergency command by Prince George's County, Angela Sobrooks, and then codified by Prince George's County Council.

The chairman of Prince George's County Council, Ed Burroughs, said it worked.

“We have seen a massive reduction in the problems that deal with our young people since the outcome lock was asserted,” said Burroughs. “They don't come masses as if they were before, and I think they received the message. Our law enforcement partners are able to defuse situations that may have arisen, but on the whole we saw nothing that we saw years ago.”

Both Burroughs and Moore-King believe that the DC city parts that deal with the annoying young people would benefit from the enforcement of an early curfew.

Moore-King just said: “5 p.m. is great.”

Burroughs also believes that something has to be done to redirect the young people who get involved in destructive behavior in a different direction.

“It [the curfew] Worked and I have no doubt that it will work for the areas affected in DC, but they will simply go somewhere else, “said Burroughs.
