Superintendent James announces the Line of Duty Death of Rentred First Sergeant Michael E. Snell

With profound sadness, New York State Police Superintendent Steven G. James announces the death descent from pensioners First Sergeant Michael E. Snellwhich died on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at the age of 56.

Sergeant Snell's death is due to an illness that results from his task in and around the World Trade Center location after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

The first Sergeant Snell served the New York state for 23 years. He withdrew from the New York state police on May 24, 2023 and was most recently assigned to Troop B, SP Ray Brook.

He is survived by his wife Tammy Snell and her four children: Wyatt, Ashton, Harrison and Lawson.

The New York State Police expands its deepest condolences to the Snell family.

The agreements will be announced after completion.
