Wilmington takes third place under the trend of the US travel destinations

Wilmington, NC (Wway) – a new one report Hopper Wilmington ranks from the travel office among the trendy domestic travel destinations.

“We have the feeling that some of our efforts could finally come, especially in our state and further distant markets.” Office of the Wilmington and Beaches Convention and Visitors President and CEO Kim Hufham said.

Hufham notes while Wilmington was once known as a small beach town, this picture has shifted in recent decades.

The visitors used to be on the beach, now they separated their time between the beaches and the Riverwalk in the city center.

This combination, together with more state marketing, has contributed to bringing the Wilmington tourism industry to more than 1 billion US dollars a year.

“We are not just a beach town, we are not just a city on the river bank. We are really a very unique goal than we both have,” said Hufham.

We asked tourists in downtown Wilmington what she brought to the port city.

Many say it is the unique historical charm of the region.

“I've never seen a place with more history in America. To be honest, I'm not really from this.

“Restaurants are really good, people are very friendly,” said another traveler from Columbus, like Ohio.

“It keeps part of the original charm,” said a visitor from Raleigh.

While others say that they fell in love with Wilmington from television or films.

“[I] Was a big fan of One Tree Hill, Dawson's Creek, so it grew up with Wilmington in a way, ”said a visitor from Ashville.

While more and more people visit the area – Hufham Notes – have to keep up the infrastructure. Even small improvements, she says, can make a difference for visitors and the people who call the area home.

“One of the things we hope that it will be more of a short -term solution is signage. We have the feeling that if you have the signage that helps people navigate their goal, it is a great help,” she said.

Hufham says that another thing that gave a big boost for the Wilmington tourism industry has expanded the air service at Wilmington International Airport, which was added more than a dozen routes this year alone.
