Waltham Police publishes more details about the car accident with the department cruiser

A Waltham police cruiser was hit by another car on Wednesday morning when, according to the police department, it entered an intersection during a red light with flashing emergency lights.

The crash occurred at the intersection of the Totten Pond Road and the Wyman Street when the officer who drove the cruiser, just reacted to a 911 call that was not related, said the Waltham police in a press release. Preliminary reports indicate that the cruiser drove west in the Totten Pond Road and found a complete stop at a red light before entering the intersection with activated emergency lights.

The other car that was involved in the crash drove south in the Wyman Street and had a green light at the time of the crash, the police said. The official reported that he had only seen the other vehicle when his cruiser hit it.

The driver of the other vehicle informed the investigators that they drove 25 miles per hour without traffic before the crash, the police said. She reported not to see the cruiser until the last moment and tried to break, but ultimately not to be able to avoid the collision.

No serious injuries were reported at the time of the crash, but both drivers were brought to a local hospital for the precaution, the police said. The cruiser landed on the side after the collision.

The Waltham Police Crash Reconstruction Team is still investigating the crash, the police said. It is unclear whether charges are submitted in connection with him or whether the official involved will discipline from his department.
