Driver dies in the 3-vehicle crash on Maui

Honolulu (Hawaiinewsnow) – A Wailuku man died on Tuesday evening in an accident with three vehicles.

It happened around 7:30 p.m. in the North Kihei Road.

The police said a 58-year-old man who drove a Honda Civic crossed the center line into oncoming traffic and hit the back of a pickup before colliding frontally with a Toyota Camry.

The Honda driver died at the scene. The police said he had not worn a seat belt and the airbags were not in his car.

The drivers of the other two vehicles, both men in the fifties, were brought into the Maui Memorial Medical Center in stable state. The police said they were wearing both seat belts and their airbags were used.

The police said that speed and alcohol contribute both factors for this crash. The participation of drugs is unknown at this time.
