Trump Administration weighs the privatization of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac

President Donald Trump said on Wednesday on Wednesday that he had “serious considerations” to consider the mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Public sponsored by the government.

In a social post of truth, Trump said that he would speak to the finance minister Scott Bessent, the Minister of Commerce Howard Lutnick and the Federal Housing Finance Director William Pult.

“Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac do it very well and throw a lot of money and time seems to be right. Stay tuned!” he wrote.

The move would be massive for the real estate market, which trillion dollar due to mortgages.

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have been under control since the 2008 financial crisis, and the attempts to publish them were unsuccessful, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Skeptics have warned that the privatization could drive both buyers from mortgage -secured securities and lead to higher mortgage interests if they are not carried out carefully, the news report says.

Jamie Dimon says that the recession is still an option: “I wouldn't take it off the table at this point.”

In February, Bessent said that the release of Fannie and Freddie would depend on the effects of mortgage.

“The priority for a fannie and Freddie publication, the most important metric that I look at is a study or an indication that the mortgage interest would increase,” he said to Bloomberg.

The Trump administration has considered to issue an executive regulation on housing construction that could include the instructions of departments to investigate the privatization of Fannie and Freddie, the journal reported.
