How the jury deals with contradictory expert statements

Grand Rapids, me. After the ongoing trial against the former official of the police authority of Grand Rapids Christopher Schurr, right-wing expert Tonya Krause-Phelan gave insights into the process. Krause-Phelan, deputy dean of academics and professor at the Cooley Law School, shared her observations with Fox 17.

In the course of the process, the focus is now on the defense team. Contradictory certificates have arisen for the first time. Two witnesses from the public prosecutor stated that Schurr did not act properly when he fired his weapon. In contrast, one of the first witnesses provided a different perspective.

Krause-Phelan noticed: “If we look at the experts from the public prosecutor, you will notice that they are talking about a national standard. Now we have a GRPD police officer who is trained to train civil servants and is aware of the law of Michigan, so that the jury has to testify the jury that is best applicable for this specific situation.”

The defense has an extensive list of witnesses, but it is considered unlikely that all positions are relieved. A critical question remains: Will Schurr say himself?

Krause-Phelan referred to the discussions among defense lawyers and explained that there was a consensus that the accused is generally unclear to take the status due to the risks of harmful cross-life from criminal prosecution. However, she emphasized a remarkable exception in cases of self -defense.

“Very often, almost always, I will dare to say, they see that a defendant takes the view in a self -defense case because the jury usually does not give any other way to know this person.

Krause-Phelan added that the observers expected that this process had developed into a battle of the experts due to the facts and circumstances in connection with the case. She says it seems that this expectation is realized in the course of the process.
