New bridge in Marshall County, who is devoted to the Winamac -Teenwesen killed in the school bus in 2018

Marshall County, Ind. (Wndu)-A $ 29 million investment in improved public security now bears the name of a 13-year-old boy who died in a school bus crash.

Have you ever noticed that some vehicles such as school buses stop at railroad crossings, regardless of whether the lights flash or not? Well, you have to do this by law.

Already in December 2018, the then 13-year-old Owen Abbott was on a bus on a school on a bus. The driver stopped on the rail tracks, but was hit by a truck from behind, killed Abbott and injured others.

Today there is a new 29 million dollar bridge that is located on road traffic over 25 feet above the railway tracks.

Today's ceremonies officially named the bridge to Owen Abbott.

“I live with Rochester and have children in school age like Owen, and so they often travel to excursions and things in this way, so that the separation of the class is a good thing here,” says Andrew Schoute from Phend & Brown Construction and pavement.

“Owen was a hero, and that is a little honor for him and his family, you can know that no other child will die here again and again in a school bus accident,” says Blake Doriot, Senator of Indiana, Blake Doriot (R-Goshen).

Wndu 16 News now senior reporter Mark Peterson was at today's Bridge Opening and commitment. He will have a lot more about it in our evening news from 4 years.
