Teen girl accidentally killed in the DC shooting video – NBC4 Washington

A 14-year-old girl was recorded in an apartment in the northeast of DC on Wednesday when he shot a social media video, the authorities said.

At around 5 p.m., the officials responded to the 1700 block of Benning Road Ne to receive a report on a shootout. They found the teenager suffering from a firing wound. The officials tried to save their lives but she died.

“The preliminary investigation shows that the girl treated a firearm while recording a video for social media when the weapon was released and she hit her upper body,” said the police in a statement.

Several people, including at least one adult, were in the apartment when the shootout entered. The weapon was recovered.

“This is a devastating memory of the dangers of weapons that get into the hands of young people in our city,” said police chief Pamela A. Smith in an explanation. “Firearms are not toys or props and have to be properly secured in a place where they can only be accessed by lawful gun owners.”

The victim's name was not published immediately. The police did not immediately say who belonged to the weapon or how the 14-year-old could get it.

The tragedy was the seventh weapon death in DC last week.
