People who knew the couple, who was killed in a “targeted attack” to the DC police in front of the Jewish Capital Museum, remembered Yaron Lischinsky as a “smiling guy” and Sarah Milgrim as warm and compassionate.

Sheila Katz, CEO of the National Council of Jewish women, said Milgrim was someone she admired, and her employees in the American Jewish Committee were “destroyed” by the loss of the young couple.

“She helped organize the Pride events for the LGBTQ community and did a lot for peace tree work, which is no surprise because she takes care of civil society and has devoted a lot of time to learn how friendships between Palestinians and Israelis could change the perspectives of people and lead to peace,” said Katz.

Julie Rayman is the managing director for political and political matters of the American Jewish Committee.

“They were a kind of partner in our efforts as an organization that works to build bridges and work with diplomats and other leaders to ensure that Jews are safe and safe around the world and flourishes Israel,” said Rayman about the couple.

Rayman said Milgrim took part in a scholarship with AJC and an organization of civil society in Morocco called Mimouna.

“When someone spoke, she really listened. She really heard her, saw her and tried to achieve a sense of understanding, and that was a symbol of her warmth and compassion,” said Rayman.

As for Lischinsky, Rayman said: “Yaron was a smiling guy” and added that his behavior “had a great hug with his presence”.

At the museum event on Wednesday, Rayman said that Lischinsky was excited and spoke about his plans to see his family in Israel for the upcoming holiday of Shavuot.

“And you know that we also plan to ask Sarah to marry him by what has been reported. That was of course part of his dizzying excitement and does it all the more tragic,” said Rayman.

Katz said that the Jewish community was “grief and exhausted” and the cramp of violence was unfortunately not surprising.

“We have known for some time that this has come. I am not surprised that people were killed. I am surprised that it is people I know,” said Katz. “I am surprised that it happened in my community, but we saw how anti -Semitism rises every day, and not enough people called it.”

According to the shootings, police authorities in the DC region announced that they are increasing their presence in synagogues and other locations in the center of Jewish communities.

“We are not grateful to the law enforcement agencies at every level,” said Rayman because he “has the full strength of her efforts behind him to determine exactly what happened and ensure that it does not happen again.”

But Rayman added that it shouldn't have to be that way.

“It shouldn't have to be that when a Jew goes to a synagogue to pray that they go through a metal detector as if he would go through airport safety,” said Rayman. “It shouldn't have to be the first question of parents if you register your child for the Hebrew school, says:” Oh, what is your security? And did you have incidents? “But that is America's reality today.”
