A complete clean -up work takes place this afternoon, with Scottish water confirming that the road is open, but advised people to continue to avoid “the immediate area”.

One spokesman said: “After reporting a suspected wastewater leaf on the Persley Bridge in the bridge of Don in Aberdeen, formerly. Our business teams reacted quickly, and we can confirm that the unloading of waste water has now been stopped.

“We are currently organizing a complete cleanup of the affected area that will begin this afternoon.
