An Angola man goes into prison because he caused a child's death in a motor vehicle accident in which he was intoxicated.

Michael J. Keane, Prosecutor's Prosecutor of Erie County, announced that 53-year-old Markus R. Genovese was convicted of the judge of Erie County Court James Barnesi on Thursday morning. He received an indefinite sentence of 5 to 15 years. His driver's license of the state of New York was revoked as a condition of the judgment.

On June 8, 2024, Bargneski drove a pickup north to Lake Shore Road (Route 5) in the city of Hamburg at around 8.10 p.m. when he caused a collision with another vehicle.

The accused drove under the combined influence of alcohol and drugs without valid license when he fell his vehicle into the back of the victim's SUV, which was stopped at the intersection to bend a left hand on the Eckhardt Road. After the crash, the accused left his vehicle and ran from the scene. He was in the nearby forest a short time later by transporting the answering officers with the ambulance to ECMC.

Two children were in the adult victim's vehicle. A passenger child, an 8-year-old boy who was sitting on the back seat on the driver's side, was fatally injured. The second passenger children, a 4-year-old boy who was also on the back seat on the side of the passenger, was brought from the ambulance to the Oisheihei Children's Hospital, where he was treated and released for injuries.
