Cubs score too late to beat Belugas in Brookings

Brookings-die Brookings Cubs improved to 3-0 in the amateur baseball season on Thursday evening when they defeated the Brandon Belugas with 5: 4.

Brookings fell behind him in the first 2-0 and then scored four runs in the second inning. The Cubs then broke a 4-4 ties into the bottom of the seventh to win the victory.

Tyler Sandbulte led out of the game with a single and Logan Kelling with a walk. Sandbulte then came home on a Daniel Buteyn Ground and Kelling scored on a passed ball to score 2-0.

Brookings scored four runs with two outs in the lower end of the second. Justin Cofell hit a single with one and then Logan Anderson went with two outs. Isaac Bonner then came on a plate and started one over the midfield fence to give the Cubs the lead. Rhett Zelinsky then went to third place on a single from Chase McDaniel. Zelinsky came home with a single from Lincoln Vasgaard and Brookings led 4-2 to the third.

The Belugas tied the game in the fifth. Brayden Byrum took a walk from the inning and then Sandbulte and Jackson Adams went to unload the bases. Byrum would score on a wild playing field and Sandbulte came home with a butyn single to do it 4-4.

Brookings achieved the leadership in the seventh. Vasgaard went to break off half the inning and called for a mistake in second place. Then he came home with a single from Myles Rees and made it 5-4 in the last two innings.

The Belugas went one or two three in the tip of the eighth. They stopped the cubs from the scoreboard in the lower edge of the inn, but could not score in the ninth time, although the bases were loaded with two outs. Vasgaard met Nick Hickenstad for the final from the game.

Brookings had 11 goals in the victory. Bonner was 3 against 5 with three RBIs. Vasgaard was 1: 3 with an RBI and Rees was 1: 4 with an RBI. McDaniel was 2: 5 and Zelinsky 1: 2. Cofell was 2-for-4 and Tucker Wookey was 1: 4.

Jake Ammann had the start for the Cubs and threw five innings. He gave up four runs, three deserved, on three goals with eight strike outs and five walks. Zach struck the next three innings and gave no runs and two goals with two strikes and two walks. Vasgaard threw the ninth and had two strikes and two walks.

Brookings will have the weekend free and the Elkton Snappers will play in Brookings on May 28th at 7:30 p.m.
