Council member Campillo Details of the city's reaction to military apartment plane crash

Officials of the city of San Diego are working on supporting military families affected by the plane crash who destroyed houses and injured residents in a military residential area in the Murphy Canyon.

According to FAA, six people were on board the aircraft, which had crashed into the neighborhood.

“Before they saw it, they could smell it from blocks. That hit me for the first time,” said Raul Campillo, City Councilor of San Diego, who represents the district in which the accident took place.

Campillo described the devastation he experienced, including a house that had “completely exploded”, and an entire block that was covered with jet fuel.

The council member praised the rapid reaction of the emergency staff and found that around 30 fire engines and more than 50 police officers arrived within minutes after the crash.

“This was something that our first aiders in San Diego were ready and helped people there,” said Campillo.

The affected houses are among the members of the marine and marine corps.

San Diegans donated so many goods to help the families affected that the officials had to redirect people to work with non -profit organizations that manage the donations.

While the investigators of the federal government are taking over the scene on military property, the city police and the fire brigade staff withdraw, however, ensure that the empty houses remain safe.

The city combines affected residents with non -profit services for immediate needs such as hotel vouchers and transport aid.

“The city can absolutely focus on these non -profit partners. We have many non -profit partners who have been with us for decades,” said Campillo.

He added that the Navy had already contributed to moving displaced families to other available residential units.

As soon as the National Transportation Safety Board has completed its investigation, the city will evaluate and repair damaged infrastructure.

“Streets, sidewalks, other components of the city infrastructure will want to repair as soon as possible because these military families deserve to have the neighborhood back,” said Campillo.

Despite the current budget deficits of the city, Campillo emphasized that repairs in the infrastructure remain a top priority for mayor Gloria and the city council.

“These families sacrifice so much for us. I am striving to ensure that they do as much as possible as possible,” said Campillo.
