Sunset Pool holds the commemoration day after the city was opened, according to which the leak of pipe holes in the city repairs

The Sunset Pool of Longmont is on the right track to open at the Memorial Day after the contractors had addressed a mechanical problem at the beginning of this week.

On Sunday, the contractors committed by the city began to repair a leak in one of the underground pipes of the pool. The leak was sealed until Wednesday.

The Memorial Day is the typical opening date for Sunset Pool, which is operated by Longmont Recreation Services. The outdoor pool in the 1900 longs Peak Ave. has two water slides, six round tracks, diving boards and a beach play area.

Sara Taylor, supervisor of the city for the city, said that the popularity of the pool during the holiday weekend motivated the employees to work as quickly as possible to prepare the facility by Monday. The decision to open on Monday was based on Friday morning on the status of the pool.

“It was so discouraging to believe that we cannot offer the community this beautiful pool for the memorial day, which starts the summer,” said Taylor. “I think all of them worked so hard to push so that we are open for the vacation.”

Taylor said the pipe had a crack with a piece of pool glasses. The piece removed the piece and exhibited the interior of the tube, which is below eight foot concrete. The city paid for contractors around 8,200 US dollars to repair the leak that does not contain any additional labor costs.

“We were very excited that this company could simply go through the pipe and repair it,” said Taylor about the leak, “instead of tearing our concrete tearing up, digging eight feet and basically carrying out a massive excavation.”

The city has spent the last few days to fill the pool with over 500,000 gallons water and heat it to the corresponding temperature.

While she said it was surprising to discover the leak, Taylor pointed out that the pipes have been giving up for more than two decades.

“Everything has a lifespan, especially when they have to do with water,” she said.

The Sunset Pool is open Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
