Laredo Police Stress Service Safety after the death of children during the crash

Laredo, Tex. (KGNS)-a 7-year-old boy died after being thrown out of an SUV on Highway 83 near the market street.

With the Memorial Day weekend, which brings more drivers on the streets, local and state officials ask the public to measure themselves. The memory takes place as part of the annual security campaign “Click IT or Ticket”.

“We want to make sure the parents do their best,” said the Laredo police spokesman, Joe Baeza. “We hear it all the time – children don't like it, they can snap themselves up, they are becoming picky. But it's the worst thing they can do. Airbags can seriously injure or even kill a child in an accident.”

According to the Texan Ministry of Transport, more than 1,000 people died in Texas in 2024 because they did not wear seat belts.

The “Click or Ticket” campaign lasts until June 1st.
