UFC 316 headliner Merab Dvalishvili suffers from an injury for two weeks

The bantam weight champion Merab Dvalishvili has apparently suffered an injury that could influence the UFC 316 main event.

Dvalishvili (19-4 MMA, 12-2 UFC) will currently compete in two weeks in two weeks in a title by Sean O'malley (18-2 MMA, 10-2 UFC). The Pay-Per-View event takes place in the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. The 135 pound championship fight is the main event. However, the fight could be in danger now.

On Friday evening, Dvishvili shared a video on Instagram stories (originally @vato.gv) and unveiled a badly damaged pinky toe. Apparently the injury occurred during a sparring meeting with an unbeaten Bantamweight Cameron Sandoval. At the beginning of the video, Dvalishvili showed the damage to his foot before illuminating the situation.

“Why are you breaking my toe, my friend?” Said Dvalishvili at the beginning of the selfie video. Sandoval refutes: “That was you! You stepped into my head and broken your toe. That is your fault.”

Dvalisvhili didn't seem to deal too much with the situation, although his behavior is usually happy, no matter what happens.

“I will cut it off,” said Dvalishvili with a laugh before the video ended.

While Dvalishvilis seemed to be badly damaged and he explained that it had been broken in the video, the full extent of the injury will only be known when the UFC champion has X-rays. If the struggle between Dvaslivhili and O'malley is ultimately canceled due to the injury, the current co-feature title fight between the bantam weight champion Julianna Peña and Kayla Harrison could be increased to the main event.
