New data show that the fatal police will meet George Floyd 5 years after the death of George Floyd

Fresno, California (KFSN) – Local and nationwide law enforcement authorities have been pursuing new data since George Floyd's death in Minneapolis.

The murder of George Floyd by a police officer in Minneapolis in May 2020 caused outrage, fear and conversation.

“Black men seemed to be exposed to the brutality of the police. At that time it seemed like that and there was only great fear,” said Dr. Lataria Hall from Fresno City College.

Dr. Hall saw the meaning of these conversations.

“As a black mother who has three black sons, I am also afraid,” said Dr. Hall.

“As a pedagogue and as a mother, I wanted to be some of these fears ahead and be more proactive instead of reactive.”

Hall arranged rooms for students on campus to talk about their concerns.

“We only hired everyone and invited them to the table to have these conversations, and they were allies because it was not only the black community, but our Latino community, our Asian community, our white community,” said Dr. Hall.

Floyd was killed by the former officer Derek Chauvin, who was later convicted of murder.

The video of Chauvin, which knelt on Floyd's neck for more than 9 minutes, became viral – which led to protests and a demand for police reform.

In the immediate weeks after the death of Floyd, the Minneapolis police authority banned all forms of neck restrictions and choke gold.

The departments across the country examined their guidelines – and the Fresno City College examined how cadets are trained in the police academy.

“Our cadets about things such as police work, understanding implicit prejudices, clarification of systemic inequalities and social justice,” said Dr. Hall.

They even introduced a de -escalation simulator.

Despite the efforts at local, state and national level, the database for mapping the police force shows in the mapping of the encounters of the fatal police in the five years since Floyd's death. The biggest climb was black.

ABC News has an interactive tool that opens up County's data and highlights areas with high rates of the police.

The data does not check whether death has been classified as justified or unjustified.

In the five years after the death of Fresno County, we gave 26 in the five years before Floyd's death in the death of Floyd-in the five years after the death of 18 police kilometers.

The Hispanics were most affected and made 20 of these deaths from 2020 to 2025.
