Trump Administration puts new borders in Pentagon

Washington -the US defense minister Pete Hegseth on May 23 granted commands in which journalists must have official escorts within a large part of the Pentagon building, the youngest in a series of restrictions by the Trump administration that were placed on the press.

The measures that come into force immediately have reduced reporters from most headquarters of the Department of Defense in Arlington, Virginia, unless they have an official approval and accompaniment.

“While the department for transparency is still obliged, the department is equally obliged to protect CSNI (classified intelligence) and sensitive information – the non -authorized disclosure whose lives of the US service members could endanger,” said Hegseth in a memorandum.

He described the protection of the classified national intelligence information and operational security “an unshakable imperative for the department”.

The Pentagon Press Association, a member organization that represents the interests of the Press Corps for the US military, said that the new rules seemed to be a “direct attack on freedom of the press”.

“The decision is allegedly based on concerns regarding operational security. However, the Pentagon Press Corps has had access to not safe, not classified rooms in the Pentagon under Republican and Democratic Administrations, including after the attacks of September 11, 2001,” the explanation said.

The Pentagon did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comments to explain the Press Association.

Since President Donald Trump returned to office in January, the Pentagon has initiated an investigation into LECKS that led to three officials being transferred to the administrative leave.

Legacy media organizations, including the New York Times, the Washington Post, the CNN and the NBC News, their Pentagon office rooms, also required it in a new rotation system, including the other, including outlets, which are generally friendly for the Trump administration such as New York Post, Breitbart, the Daily Caller and an America News Network.

The Trump government says that moving to other media should enable the opportunity to report to the Press Corps resident.

In a broader sense, the Trump management has used lie detection tests for examining non -classified leaks. Some officers of the Department of Homeland Security are informed that they could be released due to the rejection of polygraphs, Reuters reported on May 23.

The White House says Mr. Trump will not tolerate Lecks for the media and that federal employees who do so should be held accountable.

Mr. Hegseth's arrangement on May 23 also requires members of the Pentagon Press Corps to recognize responsibility for the protection of national secret services and sensitive information, and explains that they are issued with new registration information that they identify more than members of the press.

“We also expect an upcoming announcement of additional security measures and an improved examination for issuing (login information),” says the memo. Reuters
