Fuchs or Kojote? Video catches animal in front of North Springfield at home: Expert weighs in

Springfield, Mo. (Ky3) -A video that an animal recorded in front of a house in North Springfield has confused the audience about what it is.

Some people say it is a kojote, but Missouri's Department of Conservation says it is a fox.

Both foxes and coyotes are not unusual in Springfield and even more populated areas. Especially foxes that you may have accidentally left out.

“It could be something as simple as homemade food that was left in a dish or garbage in a trash that is not safe,” said Francis Skalicky with MDC. “Because foxes are all -eaters, they eat both meat and berries. They also eat vegetative material.”

To keep foxes away, MDC recommends securing dockets and ensuring that you put all food away.

Foxes also stop when they are active in your garden during the day, like your lawn. However, it has an advantage to have them nearby.

“Foxes offer advantages. I mean, they eat mice, they eat rats, some of these rabbits who may come a little in their garden. They will help to control this population,” said Skalicky.
