A decade of Taylor Swift took the stage on the Big Weekend from BBC Radio 1 that its appearance had a lasting influence on their city.

In May 2015, around 50,000 people flooded through the goals of Earlham Park in Norwich in three days.

With songs like Shake It Off and Love Story, Swift was on the line-up among the stars like Charli XCX, Muse and Snoop Dogg.

Clare Hubery, Manager for Cultural and Leisure Development in the Norwich City Council, said: “It really contributed to increasing the city's profile for people across the country.”

“Massive Operation”

The tickets for the festival 10 years ago were sold out within 40 minutes, and 75% of them were awarded to people with a Norfolk postcode.

“It was incredible and so enormous,” said Ms. Hubery.

The Norwich City Council worked with BBC Radio 1 at the event, which took a year for a year.

“Hopefully everything is seamless for people who appear on this day and they arrive and have a good time, but it is actually months and months of planning,” she said.

“I remember that I had a meeting with train companies to ensure that everyone can come home after the event.

“It was really a massive operation.”

For Superfan Ellen Siegert, the knowledge that one of her idol had appeared near home, “special”.

The 20-year-old from Hopton, Norfolk, did not take part in the event in Earlham Park. However, she managed to see the global superstar on the tour of her era last year-a night, which she called “Dream Come True”.

She said, “We joke quite a bit that nothing happens so big here. When Taylor came, it was massive, massive news.”

At the fans, Ms. Siegert provided the tour outfit of her era from sheet sheets, which reproduces one of Swift's own costumes.

“Get into the mind”

Since the big weekend of BBC Radio 1 in Norwich, more concerts have been held in Earlham Park.

Craig David appears there on June 29th.

“It was the first concert of this size and the first big music event,” she said.

“I think Norwich has shown that we can make up for this kind of things well, and people get out and come to the mind.”

In the future, she hopes that more artists will be attracted to the city.

“It would be fantastic to see Taylor or anyone in Norwich again in Norwich at this level … it would be great to have a big festival there again.”
