Animal criminals, forensic veterinarians help with the examination of the zoo in Bandon

The Oregon State Police said that with the help of the local, state and state authorities, it started an investigation to neglect animals in the West Coast Game Park Safari in the autumn.

A partner who was supported in the effort was the Oregon Humane Society, which operates one of the nation's only animal forum centers. The non -profit organization, which also has its own law enforcement officers based on A State law passed in 2012served on May 15th one of the search commands in the street zoo in Bandon.

“One of the things that Oregon really make is unique is that we have human law enforcement officers who are commissioned by Oregon State Police here, and we this forensic center,” said Laura Klink from Oregon Humane Society. “We are the only state in the country that has both things.”

Klink said OHS agents are trained in collecting evidence of animal abuse and neglect. The organization sent a law enforcement officer and a forensic veterinarian to the West Coast game parkafari when the authorities searched the facility. The Oregon Humane Society also received several animals in its forensics center in Portland. Klink said, evidence that OHS collects, can be crucial for building a case for prosecutors.

“Our head of the law enforcement authorities likes to say:” If you don't have a veterinary report, you have no case, “said Klink.” Animals cannot tell us what happened to them. “

The Oregon Humane Society reported that In 2023, over 500 cases of alleged animal abuse examined, which led to 12 criminal matters. Klink said the organization's Tier Forensic Center was also used by foreign agencies. The only other center of its kind is in Florida.

There are only two universities – the University of Florida and Cornell University – that offer an advanced conclusion in veterinary forum. Klink described the training as “emerging and growing specialties within the animal field”.

The police confiscated and relocated hundreds of animals from the west coast game parkafari. Last year alone, the US Agriculture Ministry quoted the zoo 78 times for questions of non-compliance in connection with animal welfare.

No charges have yet been submitted against the owner of the zoo, Brian Tenney.
