Young basketball

Newton North hired John McNamara as a new young basketball coach. McNamara, graduate of the Newton North and captain of the state championship team of the school in 2005, has been an integral part of the Newton North basketball community since his return in 2009. In the past 16 years he has had roles at all levels of the program, from newcomer and JV coach to his recent position as a university assistant.

“I am incredibly honored and excited to take on this role,” said McNamara. “As a former player and long -time coach here, this program means everything for me. I look forward to building up to our recent success and continuing to develop a culture of hard work, accountability and pride to be a Newton North Tiger.”

McNamara was one of two recent attitudes. Steve Matthews was appointed the new Boys Hoop coach in Dedham. Matthews, a former outstanding player at Catholic Memorial, has extensive high school training experiences, recently in Newton South, where he led the Lions to two titles of the dual County League.
