An employee at Creative Beginning Daycare in Lenoir was charged with the death of a 16 -month -old girl.

The 29 -year -old Alexander Coffey was arrested and charged with the involuntary homicide. It is recorded under a bond of 500,000 US dollars.

A newly published 911 call gives more insights into what happened before the child's death.

The caller who was suspected was 911, she thought the child slept, but she noticed that she didn't breathe. It was gone by CPR by the dispatcher, who asked if the facility had a defibrillator. The caller said no.

Seven minutes after the call began, the employee announced that the child's mother had not been contacted.

Despite the efforts of the life -saving measures of the emergency room, the child was declared dead shortly after his arrival in the hospital.

The daycare center was completely cooperative with the investigation.

WCNC reports that state inspection documents show that in August 2024 the employees of the creative beginnings were not all properly certified in first aid and CPR.

On Wednesday, the North Carolina of Health and Human Services gave an administrative measure against the daycare center and suspended its license to close it at the end of the day.
