Boston Red Sox 3b Alex Bregman's injury 'worse than', he thought at first

Boston – Red Sox's third Baseman, Alex Bregman, is on the way to get an MRI on his right quad. It sounds like it could already be put on the 10-day injury list today.

“He is sore,” said manager Alex Cora in front of the Doubleheader against the Orioles on Saturday. “So we will see where we are. We will receive the results whenever.”

Bregman's quad felt worse than he expected when he woke up this morning. He sounded optimistic after the game on Friday.

Bregman won from the left field wall with two outs on Friday. When he made the curve on the first basis, he slows down when the ball was picked up and thrown back into the infield. When Bregman came back first, he immediately signaled the shelter that he had to get out of the game.

“I saw him this morning. He says:” Eh, it's worse than I thought, “said Cora.” So let's see what MRI shows and we will go from there. “

When Cora was asked whether it was in the direction of an IL stint, he replied: “I don't want to get in conclusions, but yes.”

Bregman beats .299 with a percentage of 0.385, a slugging percentage of 0.553, 0.938 ops, 11 home runs, 17 doubles, 35 RBIs, 32 runs, 22 walks and 42 strike outs in 51 games (226 record appearances).

Cora said, i.e. Rafael Devers, who started 942 games on the third base in his career, was not a candidate to replace Bregman in third place.

Cora was also asked whether the top shortstop prospective Marcelo Mayer is under discussion for his first MLB call. Triple-A Worcester plays Durham at home today.

“There are many people talking,” said Cora. “Squad building comes into play. People in the little leagues how they fit the squad and all the stuff.”

It is possible that a squad train will be made on Saturday.

“We have to wait and see, but we obviously don't want to play briefly,” said Cora.

Nick Sogard will play the third basis on Saturday.
