Pentagon jumes the media access to Quelle -lecks

May 24th (Upi) – Defense Minister Pete Hegseth continues to restrict access to the media to the areas of the Pentagon, since he wants to reduce non -decreasing leaks of military information.

“Updated security measures for residents and visiting talks are necessary to reduce the possibilities for personal and unauthorized disclosures,” said Hegseth in a memo that was published at the beginning of this week.

Reporters must now have an official escort in more areas of the Pentagon, including the hallway in which Hegseth's office is located.

“She [media] have to be officially accompanied by and by these respective offices, “says the memo.

Journalists in the Pentagon also have to sign a promise to protect “confidential information”.

Reporters cannot move freely to the Department of Defense headquarters “without official approval and support from the assistant of the Defense Minister of Public Affairs”. This role currently belongs to Hegseth's assistant for public affairs and senior consultant Sean Parnell.

Parnell was commissioned at the beginning of the week to run a committee that carried out a “comprehensive review” of the United States' withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Hegseth has checked for the media after a number of leaks and missteps by Ministry of Defense.

In March, the Defense Minister was shot because he had accidentally added a journalist to a signal chat and had shared classified information about Houthi rebels in Yemen.

The officials of the Ministry of Defense were later put on vacation in April, including the deputy chief of staff in it. Head of Staff of the deputy US defense minister Colin Carroll was also transferred to administrative leave.

A fourth official was involved in the leak and re -assigned days later.

Later this month it was found that Hegseth reported that classified military information shared in a separate signal chat.

“While the department for transparency is still obliged, the department is equally obliged to protect CNSI (classified national intelligence information) and sensitive information – the non -authorized disclosure could put the life of the US service members in danger,” wrote Hegseth in the memo.

The Defense Minister said that the “updated security measures” were necessary “to reduce the opportunities for personal and unauthorized disclosures.”
