The Indonesian city looks at boot camps in China-style after the upswing of youth crime

An Indonesian politician has proposed military rehabilitation inspired in China for young people who have difficulties in his region who are in an increase in young crime.

The governor of West Java, Dedi Mulyadi, said his idea of a voluntary discipline program in the military style in Depok City was inspired by the Chinese Youth Reformation model, according to the English-language newspaper Jakarta Globe.

According to the Hong Kong Federation of youth groups, the Chinese mainland stipulates education and rehabilitation because they have badly stunned children in special corrective schools.

This approach aims to address underlying problems such as family dynamics and the school environment. People between the ages of 13 and 28 who commit minor crimes can be accepted in reformers or work studies who concentrate on education and vocational training.

Some Chinese parents also register their children in camps who emphasize character development and offer military training

“I saw how China uses this method. The results are that children are more energetic, optimistic and have a clear way of living. This could be part of our future,” said Mulyadi on Friday.
