After the fatal traffic accident at the intersection of the Busch Boulevard and Armenia Avenue, the Tampa Police Department (TPD) took the 25 -year -old Jefry Maldonado Hernandez (25) in custody.

He was charged with Dui -Totschlag and vehicle murder after showing signs of impairment, TPD officers said.

“We are deeply sad about the tragic death of an innocent man this morning, and our beginners of our victims will work to help his grieving family if they control this incredible loss,” said Lee Bercaw, chief of police from Tampa. “This was not an accident, but the result of a criminal acts by a driver and the ruthless decision to do a vehicle while they are affected. Dui is a completely avoidable act that destroys life. We are obliged to stand with this family during their profound loss in order to ensure a thorough examination and striving for justice.”

Around 3:23 a.m. Maldonado Hernandez drove a black Dodge Ram-pick-up truck on the West Busch Boulevard, which was approaching the North Armenia Avenue.

At the same time, a green Lexus RX300, which was driven by an adult man in the early 1960s, was stopped towards the south on the North Armenia Avenue on the West Busch Boulevard.

As soon as the light for the Lexus was green, it crossed the West Busch Boulevard.
Witnesses told the investigators that Maldonado Hernandez defeated “Das Licht” according to a police report when it changed in yellow.

Maldonado Hernandez led the red light on the West Busch Boulevard at high speed and slammed into the Lexus, said police officers. The impact turned the ram to his side.

The driver of the Lexus was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead.

Maldonado Hernandez was also charged with driving without a valid driver's license (with death or serious bodily harm) and instructed in Orient Road prison.

The intersection was closed for the investigative and performance repairs for several hours. It has opened again since then.
