A man from Tampa was arrested for driving under the influence of a fatal crash, where a large intersection was closed early Saturday.

The 25 -year -old Jefry Maldonado Hernandez drove to the east shortly before 3:30 a.m. on the W -Busch Boulevard when he accelerated to beat a yellow light in the N Armenia Avenue. After the light turned red, Hernando's truck crashed against a Lexus that was driven by a man at the beginning of 60, the police said. The man was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.

The police said Maldonado Hernandez showed signs of impairments at the scene. He was arrested for vehicle murder, Dui -Totschlag and trip without a valid driver's license.

“This was not an accident, but the result of a criminal act of a driver and the ruthless decision to do a vehicle while he is affected,” said Lee Bercaw, chief of police from Tampa. “Dui is a completely avoidable action that destroys life. We are obliged to stand with this family during her profound loss to ensure a thorough examination and striving for justice.”

The intersection of Busch and Armenia was closed during the examination, but was opened again on Saturday morning.
