Byron does the chances on the way to the XFinity Series Score

Concord, NC – Nothing could prevent William Bryron from collecting a trophy on his home route on Saturday.

Byron overcame a penalties for the speed crossing in the Pit Road, avoided trouble in a flood of late road warnings and gathered in the last two rounds to say goodbye to Justin Allgaier and win the BetMGM 300 NASCAR XFinity race on the Nascar XFinity series on the Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Byron-a native of North Carolina in Charlotte, is still looking for his first Coca-Cola 600 victory. On Saturday, the driver of Hendrick Motorsport Chevrolet No. 17 ensured that this swing on Sunday had shifted in his favor for the Festzel event on weekends. Byron was punished at the end of 2 level 2 because it was accelerated on the pit road and had to fall on the back of the field.

He methodically made his way back to the front and used Frauer tires as a Allgaier to pursue the JR engine sports driver in the penultimate round of the race and to clarify it for the lead and the speed of victory by 0.302 seconds over Connor Zil.

“As soon as I was saved, it only played from there,” said Byron. “We were never really on the offensive until we got new tires with 20 rounds. I knew that Justin would stumble onto these old tires (at the last restart), so I just waited to take a step and measure myself where I could reach him in (curves) 3 and 4.

“Winning in No. 17 is cool. I was about to win in the 17, but I still hadn't done it. The big win here in Charlotte, my family's home route. We were a lot as fans on this route. Here the dream really started for me.

Zilisch finished second when he returned to the cockpit after missing a race with a back injury.

“The second place is never fun, but I am very grateful for my entire JRM Chevrolet team,” said Zilisch. “The car was as fast as Xfinity Mobile. We just didn't have enough at this last restart. We had a tire breakdown, we had an engine that stumbled all day. To get second with a few stage points is a really good day, but they want more and more.”

Nick Sanchez took fifth third with Allgaier Fourth and Sammy Smith.

Byron led 71 laps in his final planned XFINITY Series start of the year. Allgaier went on the field for 103 out of 205 circuits, but stayed in front of 180 and had to commit to victory against tires that are much older than his opponents.

A green-white-cheeky restart after a crash with several cars proved to be Allgaier's back hits and Byon's golden opportunity.

Allgaier tried to block Byron's hard car no. 17, but when the leaders of the white flag approached, Byron swept past the outside of Allgaiers No. 7 machine and has never been challenged in the last 1.5 miles.

“It's on my shoulders,” said Allgaier, the racing winner in 2023. “This team gave me a great racing car. I'm so proud of everyone. Memorial Day Weekend means a lot. I wanted to win today.

“I would have won if we had just hit the field and it is my daughter's birthday. She wanted a trophy for today, so I'm disappointed. I'll go back and step into it. It's just very frustrating.”
