Two former HBCU baseball players die at Atlanta Car Crash

The Stillman College and the HBCU community mourn the loss of three members of his community on the evening of May 23, 2025 after a fatal car accident in the U -Bahn region Atlanta.

The accident called for the life of Sweas elliotA current student and alumni Fate Gardner And Varick Lawrence. All three were beloved members of the Stillman family, known for their lively personalities, their commitment to service as well as academic and sporting achievements.

Sweas elliotThe native of Stockbridge, Georgia, recently completed his baseball career at Stillman College and planned to return in the academic year 2025-2026 in order to graduate and act as a student baseball coach. He was also a member of Omega Psi Phi Brotherhood, Inc.

Elliot was known in and next to the field for his leadership and its contagious positivity and received the admiration of teammates and faculties alike.

Honor from Destiny Gardner

Fate GardnerA graduate from 2022 from Montgomery, Alabama, served as the 74. Miss Stillman During the academic year 2021-2022. A committed member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.She was also a regional representative of the UNCF National Pre-Alumni Council.

At the time of her death, Gardner worked as a young officer on DEKALB Regional Youth Hachleiterzentrum in Georgia. She was deeply employed in her community and was a passionate lawyer for young people. Gardner and Lawrence shared a little son.

Varick LawrenceOriginally from Lithonia, Georgia, played baseball at the HBCU from 2021 to 2023 and completed in 2023. He was active in youth development Baseball coach in the Atlanta area and was also a member of Omega Psi Phi Brotherhood, Inc.
