Cities that are bound with George Floyd mark the 5th anniversary of his death

Minneapolis – Religious services, concerts and vigils will be given to George Floyd's murder by a police officer in Minneapolis on Sunday, even if the reform of the police and the civil rights activists are exposed to what they regard as setbacks of the Trump administration.

Events in the Minneapolis Center at George Floyd Square, the intersection, at the police officer Derek Chauvin with his knee Floyd's neck for 9 1/2 minutes when the 46-year-old black man cried “I can't breathe”.

The events started on Friday with concerts, a street festival and a “self -care fair” and culminated on Sunday with a service, a gospel music concert and a vigil from candlelight.

In Houston, where Floyd grew up, family members wanted to gather on Sunday in his tomb for a memorial service led by Rev. Al Sharton. In a park that is about 3.2 kilometers away, a memorial service takes place, followed by five hours of music, sermon and poem readings and a balloon publication.

The memories come to a strenuous moment for activists who had hoped that the global protests that had murder of Floyd's murder on May 25, 2020 would lead to a permanent police reform in the USA and another focus on questions of racial justice.

Even with the promises of the Minneapolis police to redesign the police department, some activists claim that progress has come at a glacier pace.

“We understand that change takes time,” said Michelle Gross, President of Communities United against police brutality, in a statement last week. “However, the progress claimed by the city will not be felt on the streets.”

The government of President Donald Trump applied on Wednesday to cancel settlements with Minneapolis and Louisville, who called for the murder of Floyd and the murder of Breonna Taylor to revise their police departments. Under Democratic President Joe Biden, the U.S. Ministry of Justice had aggressively urged aggressive surveillance by the local police, which had accused it due to widespread abuse.

Trump also explained an end to the initiatives for diversity, equity and inclusion in the federal government, and its administration uses federal funds as a lever to force local governments, universities and public school districts to do the same. Republican states have also accelerated their efforts to lift the initiatives of the initiatives.
