Newark, NJ – a drunk driver who killed two of his passengers while accelerating near a school in Newark, was sentenced to life imprisonment, the prosecutors said on Thursday.

The 39 -year -old Shaquan Wiley was behind the steering wheel during a double vehicle murder took place in 2020 in 2020.

The public prosecutor said that Wiley was drunk near a school in Newark on January 25, 2020 when he drove at high speed. Wiley finally lost control of the vehicle and fell against a tree. Two of his passengers, Tahtiyanah Green (17) and Imani Exum (21) were killed immediately. Two other passengers, Michael Kirk (37) and Shikeyah Hamlin (21) suffered life -threatening injuries.

A jury condemned Wiley on February 24 with eight related counts, including two cases of first -degree vehicle murder, two cases of serious attacks by car and other crimes.

Wiley was convicted of life in the New Jersey State prison, the authorities said.

According to the public prosecutor's office, the lifelong prison sentence – rarely in vehicle cases – was imposed due to the excessive speed, poisoning and the “extensive crime history” of Wiley, including a conviction of the 2005 because he had fatal to hit a pedestrian while ruthless.

According to the conditions of the law on the No Early release, Wiley must serve 63 years and 9 months before it is entitled to probation, the public prosecutor said.
