Europe can buy more US weapons for Ukraine if Trump becomes impatient about peace talks

The European leaders run to find out how they can be delivered to Ukraine with weapons, while US President Donald Trump goes away from the war. One option: buy Americans.

Europe has neither the weapons nor the ability to make them sufficiently large enough because it becomes clear that the United States will no longer deliver. The White House has also rejected the appeal of Europe to preserve the push to get Russian President Vladimir Putin to agree to an immediate ceasefire by strengthening sanctions.

Instead, the Kremlin seems to stop the peace talks that Trump promised to prepare for a summer offensive, according to the people familiar with the matter. A proposal that gains more credibility is to buy more American systems – and then send these weapons to Ukraine, said the people familiar with the matter who asked not to be identified in order to discuss private considerations.

The idea is that when Trump refuses to send us weapons to Ukraine.

That would help Ukraine prevent Russia's advance and Putin could exert fresh pressure in order to make an armistice seriously. And if the Europeans can persuade Trump to continue to provide Ukraine information, President Volodymyr Zelensky may be able to hold on.

At the same time, the European Union is considering reducing more than 20 banks from Swift, the international payment system, as well as a price limit for Russian oil and banning the Nord -Stream gas pipelines as part of a new sanction package against Russia.

“It is not entirely clear to me how bad it would be if the United States would go away and have the opportunity to enable Europe or Ukraine to buy US weapons, and enables us to pass on the secret service with Ukraine,” said Andrew Weiss, Vice President for Studies at Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. “It is not an ideal result. It is certainly suboptimal, but it is not the worst case that many of us have worried about.”
