Redeem prosecutors 123.8 BLN have won in the proceeds of the criminal proceeds due to technological leaks

Seoul, May 25th (Yonhap) – The prosecutors have accessed over 100 billion WON (73.1 million US dollars) in punitive proceeds in connection with technological leaks and adopted 73 people for relatives in the past three years, said officials on Sunday.

The Supreme Public Prosecutor (SPO) said that the public prosecutor had booked 226 people for the theft of the country's nuclear technologies and redeemed about 123.8 billion WON -Won proceeds between September 2022 and this month.

The results came after the SPO started an investigation support center for technology in 2022 to better react to the growing number of such crimes that affect the country's core technology leak in the semiconductor and secondary battery sector.

The authorities also urged to increase the convictions of the Supreme Court of Court for relatives and effectively asked the Supreme Court to increase the punishment for such crimes in March 2024 to a maximum prison sentence of 18 years.

In response to these measures, the proportion of suspects or the defendants, who received prison terms for such crimes, increased, civil servants said.

“Technology creation crimes are serious crimes that pose a threat to national security and cause irreparable damage that must be blocked in advance with strict punishment and confiscation of the punishment proceeds,” said a SPO officer.
