Chilling Last words from Death Row's oldest inmate Oscar Franklin Smith seconds before his execution – US news

Tennesses's oldest death series inmate shared some terrifying last words before he was executed at the beginning of this week.

The 75 -year -old Oscar Franklin Smith was executed by fatal injection on Thursday (May 22nd), more than three decades after a jury had sentenced him to the murder of his estranged wife and two youthful sons.

Judith Smith was stabbed to death on October 1, 1989 with her children Jason Burnett (13) and Chad Burnett (16) in their house in Nashville.

The mother had separated from Smith, with whom she shared twins, shortly before the gruesome murders took place, and according to the mirror, the murderer had reported insurance policies for all three victims.

Two of his colleagues also said in court how Smith asked her to kill Judith, while repeatedly addressing violent threats about his wife and sons.

During the murders, the trio had tried to call the police and the notification of the authorities – and the prosecutors said that one of the children screamed in the background of the 911 call: “Frank, no!”

At Smith's trial, the court heard how the boys acted as “heroes” and died “and their mother”.

Nevertheless, Smith held his innocence during his detention in the Rivanbend Maximum Security Institution until he had taken his last breath a few days ago.

The 75-year-old was executed after having eaten hot dogs, taters and apple pie with vanilla ice cream for his last meal, Dorinda Carter, spokeswoman for Tennessee Department of Corrections, told Tennessean.

Smith quit a long explanation before the execution and beat the government, the legal system and the governor of Tennessee, Bill Lee, who hired his planned execution in 2022 at the last minute.

“Someone has to tell the governor that the judicial system does not work,” said Smith (about USA today). “Too many of us are killed for another.”

When he started losing awareness, he reportedly said the words “I did not kill her, I didn't kill her” regarding his alienated wife Judith.

Smith's spiritual consultant was present for his last moments, which is a premiere for Tennessee, and she sang at a point while praying at the same time.

His lawyer Amy Harwell described him as a “beloved child of God” while she said she was “honored” to represent him.

The relatives of Judith, Jason and Chas also shared their thoughts on Smith's execution, with the family said that they “continue to bear the pain of losing them”.

Judith's sister Teresa Osborne said: “It's not a moment when we don't miss her. I miss Judy's voice – I also know that my brother does it – at the other end of the phone.

“We miss the excitement to plan Chad's hours of driving, and we miss the pure joy of hearing Jasons laugh. These are memories and wounds that will never heal completely.”

Judith's brother Mike Robirds added: “Nobody should have to live in fear like our sister. No family should have a loss like ours.”
